What? Meme?

 18.4.12

Internet meme (like beam or cream):

In its most basic form, an Internet meme is an idea that is propagated through the World Wide Web. This idea may take the form of a photo, hyperlink, video, website, hashtag, or even just a word or phrase. This meme may spread from person to person via social networks, blogs, direct email, news sources, and other web-based services.

An Internet meme may stay the same or may evolve over time, by chance or through commentary, imitations, parody, or even by collecting news accounts about itself. Internet memes can evolve and spread extremely rapidly, sometimes reaching world-wide popularity and vanishing all in a few days. They are spread organically, voluntarily, and peer-to-peer, rather than by predetermined or automated means.

The term "meme" was coined by Richard Dawkins in his 1976 popular science bestseller, The Selfish Gene. (per wiki.)

If you're a long-time blogger now, you may have joined different memes throughout your blogging life. Some of you may be the host of popular memes.

Memes are a way to interact with fellow bloggers who share the same interest. Whether it be photography, music, writing, painting, sewing, baking, reading even eating, you're sure to find a meme that you'll enjoy for the rest of your blogging career.

Here, you will find memes that I have at some point participated in, some that I found while bloghopping and others that I plan to join in the future.

To make it easier for all of us, I have compiled the badges and buttons that you can easily paste on your post so that you don't have to open an already published post, copy the code and paste it to a new one. Get them all here and paste them directly to your post. (All badges and buttons are "centered" by default.)

I've also listed photo challenges and memes that have a voting system as well as those without badges to be posted.

Not sure which meme to join today? Click on a day to show the memes that are being played by bloggers, photographers and hobbyists all over the world.

The memes are listed according to the time that their particular hosts post their primary photo, or when Mr. Linky and other widgets are open for participants...

This means the "day" in the title of the meme may not necessarily be the same day an entry should be posted.

Submit a meme that is not in this listing: Email mirage2g@gmail.com. (Follow format of listed memes and include our badge.)
